DC United vs San Jose Earthquakes Predictions

DC United sit top of the Eastern Conference and have nine more points on the board than their guests this weekend, SJ Earthquakes. However, the visitors have played three fewer games than their hosts this season and head into Sunday’s match as the clear form favourites. Wondolowski broke the record for most number of goals scored by one player in a match when the American netted four against Chicago Fire, and then followed that up with a brace against Toronto last weekend. Both the striker and his club appear to be hitting form at last, and that could proved detrimental to DC United this weekend.

After going two goals down at home to Chicago Fire in midweek, DC United recovered well to take the lead nine minutes from time thanks to a brace from Segura and one from Acosta. However, the hosts couldn’t hold onto their lead and Chicago Fire rescued a deserved point in stoppage time, as the game ended 3-3. SJ Earthquakes went behind away at Toronto shortly before the half hour mark, but the in form Wondolowski picked up where he left off last time with an equaliser for the visitors before the break. The American striker went on the win the game nine minutes from time with his sixth goal in two matches, though on the balance of play a draw would probably have been the fair result.

The form of these two sides heading into Sunday’s match and their performances over the last month, all point towards goals in this game for both sides and SJ Earthquakes standing a good chance of continuing their good run of form. DC United have failed to win any of their last five matches in all competitions, while SJ Earthquakes have only lost one of their last six matches in the MLS. Both teams have scored and over 2.5 goals were produced in three of DC United’s last four and in four of SJ Earthquakes’ last six matches, which is why we’re expecting goals at both ends of the pitch on Sunday. SJ Earthquakes have won three of their last four games, while DC United have failed to win their last two matches at home, and that’s another good reason to back the visitors with a double chance bet this weekend.

Rooney has scored eight goals already for DC United this season, while SJ Earthquakes’ Wondolowski is just two goals behind the former England captain on six goals. We’re confident that a double chance bet on SJ Earthquakes has a great chance of paying out this weekend, and have even predicted a 2-1 win for the visitors. SJ Earthquakes are enjoying the best form of their season so far and play DC United in the midst of their worst run of the campaign, all of which points towards a good result for the visitors on Sunday.
