Denmark Women vs Spain Women Predictions

  • Spain have conceded in their last three internationals.
  • Denmark have conceded in four of their last five internationals, scoring in all but one of them.
  • Spain’s two-year unbeaten run was ended by Germany on Tuesday when they lost 2-0.
  • Denmark were much better against Finland last time out, winning the xG battle 3.14-0.33.

Danes can do some damage to La Roja’s rearguard

Denmark can do some damage to a Spain side that has shown signs of weakness in their first two Group B games when two sides with plenty to play for meet at Brentford Community Stadium. Both have suffered defeats to Germany already, making this match a winner-takes-all-affair – although Spain can secure their passage to the quarter-finals with a draw because of their superior goal difference.

The Danes won’t be daunted by the task in front of the – even though they were beaten 3-0 by La Roja when they last met a year ago. Confidence in their camp was boosted by a 1-0 win over Finland which they totally dominated, creating plenty of opportunities to score.

Admittedly, they will have to be more efficient in front of goal against the Spaniards, but their world star Pernille Harder has been passed fit to play by coach Lars Søndergaard after suffering a bang on the head late in the Finland win.

Spanish stars out and leadership has been lacking

Spain are without top scorer Jenni Hermoso and the world’s best – Alexia Putella – because of injury and there appeared to be a lack of leadership on the field during their 2-0 loss to Germany, which brought a two-year unbeaten cycle to an end.

Despite enjoying 70% of possession against die Nationalelf, they created little of note up top and they can expect to face a similar approach from Denmark, who will defend deep and look to hit on the break. The price on both teams to score here looks too good to ignore, given Spain have not kept a clean sheet in their last three, but have been shut out only twice in the last two years.
However, the Danes have not struck more than one goal in any of their last nine group stage matches in this tournament, so our overall expectation here is for Spain to get a 2-1 win.
