Drogheda United vs Shamrock Rovers Predictions

  • The visitors have won 2-0 in three of their last eight away games.
  • Drogheda United have lost six of their last nine home league games.

Rovers look to bounce back

Shamrock Rovers fell to a rare defeat at Dundalk last time out but the Irish Premier Division leaders should be able to get back to winning ways against the struggling Drogheda United on Friday.

Prior to last Friday’s defeat, Rovers were unbeaten in five league games and had won four of those, keeping a clean sheet in each of those victories. Even after their loss they remain clear at the top of the table, with four points separating them from St Patrick’s Athletic behind them.

Greene to make the difference in Drogheda

Drogheda United find themselves at the less glamorous end of the table, sitting eighth with just 24 points from 22 games so far. Their draw at Cork City last time out made it one win from their last five games and they have lost to Cork City, Shelbourne and Dundalk in that period.

They did manage to pull off a shock away to Shamrock Rovers earlier this season but, with six wins from their last ten away games and seven clean sheets on top of that, an away win appeals along with a fourth 2-0 win in the last nine away games.

Veteran striker Aaron Greene is worth considering in the anytime goalscorer market, too. The 33-year-old has scored four goals in his last six appearances and only started three of those, so he can add to his tally at Weavers Park.
