Dundalk vs Sligo Rovers Predictions
The champions remain under pressure at the top of the table, with Shamrock Rovers emerging as serious contenders. Dundalk do have the lead on goal difference, but can they hang on to it? They head into this weekend with a tricky match in prospect, as they meet a Sligo Rovers side who have been showing some promise of late. While the visitors remain positioned in midtable, that’s certainly no indication of how well they’re playing, so could they threaten the league leaders?
Dundalk come into this game with an impressive home record backing them up. They’ve won eight of 10 matches at their own ground, which has played a large part in sending them back to the top of the table. The champions are also the most effective attacking side in the division, as they’re the current top scorers in the league. Their push for glory is based on a strong attack and solid defence, but they have conceded in two of their last three matches, will that streak continue here?
Sligo Rovers enter this clash with a seven-game unbeaten record spurring them on. They have put themselves in the frame for a European spot thanks to a solid return, which includes their 2-1 win at third-placed Bohemians in their last game. They have scored 10 times across their last six matches, while they come into this clash looking to continue a strong run of results in one of their toughest fixtures of the campaign.
Rovers are boosted by their recent results against the champions, having taken four points from their two meetings this term. Now they face another visit to Oriel Park, but having scored three times across those two clashes they should be able to get forward and cause problems. We expect Rovers to make a strong impact here, having scored at least twice in their last three away trips.
Meanwhile, Dundalk have scored in 100% of their home league games this season. They head into this match having found the net in 11 straight league games overall, while they’ve hit 19 goals in 10 home games. We can’t see them coming up short here, but we do think that Rovers will continue their scoring run, especially given how the visitors have performed against Dundalk so far. With that in mind, we’re backing both teams to score as our main tip for this game.
