      Elfsborg vs Trelleborg Predictions

This match sees two sides who are currently hovering above the Swedish Allsvenskan drop-zone lock horns. As always, two sides will go down automatically while one will enter into a play-off, in a system similar to how things work in the Bundesliga. Currently Elfsborg and Trelleborg are the two sides directly above the play-off position so they will both be a bit edgy heading into this one.

It’s the final game before the mid-season break so victory would send either side off on a real high but it’s likely to be a pretty even contest. Elfsborg will be the team that is more disappointed with their start. They sneaked into the top half last term and have been crowned Swedish champions twice this century in 2006 and 2012. Based on six year intervals, the omens were good heading into 2018 but it’s safe to say they won’t be challenging for the Allsvenskan this term and they will do well to merely stay in it.

Survival was always going to be the main objective for Trelleborg. They were promoted via the play-offs last term and started the season as one of the favourites for the drop. All things considered, they will be pretty content with the start they’ve made, with a 6 point cushion already built up on the two definite relegation positions.

They’d probably settle for a point here, given they are away to another side in the battle at the bottom. With 10 points from their last 5 games they are certainly the side with the momentum and they look capable of getting at least that. Their away record has been particularly impressive with just one defeat in four road games so far this term. That includes an excellent win away to 3rd placed Norrkoping while they also got a point at Djurgarden, another side flying high in the top six.

Those results suggest they are a bit long with the bookies and it’s very hard to see why Elfsborg are such clear favourites. They are yet to win at home this term and their average of 0.6 points per home game is the second worst in the division. While they have played some decent sides at home, there is still a loss to 2nd bottom Sirius in there and all things considered, backing Trelleborg Double Chance looks like the smart move here.

All of Elfsborg’s last 3 home games have ended level and with Jimmy Thelin’s men not convincing in the final third, a repeat would be no surprise here. Going for a 1-1 Draw might be the best move in the Correct Score market.
