Espanyol vs Valencia Predictions
That theory is more to do with how unimpressive Valencia have been so far as opposed to anything Espanyol have done. The side that finished 4th in La Liga last term and spent close to £100million this summer haven’t really got going as they would have liked. They’ve only won 1 of their opening 4 matches in La Liga which is really poor considering they have played two of the promoted teams as well as Rayo Vallecano and Deportivo, two sides who are expected to struggle.
Lack of goals has been their main problem. They only have two in the league so far and despite holding a one man advantage for almost the entire Second Half at the weekend at home to Real Betis, they just couldn’t break through and slumped to a 0-0 draw, their second of the season.
On paper this looks like their toughest league match so far. Espanyol were strong at home last term and only suffered 5 home defeats and went on a long winning streak at the Power8 Stadium during the middle of the campaign.
If you write off a 6-0 hammering dished out by a Cristiano Ronaldo inspired Real Madrid, something which can happen to almost any team in Europe if you catch them on the wrong day, then Espanyol will be pleased with their start to the season. They’ve 6 points from their opening 4 games and displayed defensive resiliance in their opening day 1-0 win over Getafe at home, while also demonstrated they possess some attacking flare in the 3-2 win at Real Sociedad on Saturday.
Therefore we’ve certainly seen enough from them to suggest they can cause an out-of-sort Valencia side, which is still feeling their way into the new season, some problems here and at 8/11 they are good value to get a result from the game.
They may not possess quite enough to bag all 3 points and probably won’t be that ambitious in any case if the game heads towards the closing 20 minutes level, which it may well given this has all the makings of a tight game. Therefore considering opting for a 1-1 draw if you’re looking for a correct score bet and you can back that to be the case at 5/1.
