Estonia vs Cyprus Predictions

Tight affair expected in Tallinn

Goals will probably be scarce in Tallinn this week when Estonia hist Cyprus in the first of their home-and-away Nations League play-outs with the winner remaining in League C.

Neither of these nations have been pulling up any trees lately with Estonia picking up three points in their last Nations League campaign and a total of four in World Cup qualifying. Cyprus managed four Nations League points and took five in qualifying for Qatar 2022, albeit from two more games than Estonia played.

They do look evenly matches on paper and a draw would seem to be the obvious bet here, particularly as opening legs like this can be cagey. Nikos Kostenoglou’s squad contains a few established players plying their trade abroad, but not at any top clubs, and some talented prospects still aligned to clubs on the island.

More upside to Cypriots but draw still likely

There is more upside to the Cyprus squad right now than the same tired old faces that turn out for Estonia. The Blueshirts are an experienced bunch with six players holding 75 caps or more, but most of those experiences involve losing.

The relatively short price of 2/1 about the draw does look worth taking here because neither of these teams really know how to grind out wins or kill games off when in front. Cypus’ failure to score in seven of their last eight away internationals overall also points us towards a 0-0 correct score forecast.
