Everton vs Liverpool Predictions
- Everton have been level at the break in four of their seven home games this season
- Liverpool have scored 62% of their away goals after half-time
- The Toffees have lost four of their five clashes with the top 10 so far
- Salah has scored in seven consecutive league games
Reds face final Goodison trip
Mohamed Salah took his potential farewell tour close to breaking point last weekend, referencing how Sunday’s 2-0 victory over Manchester City could be his final home meeting with the Citizens. While that was a tedious milestone, Saturday afternoon’s clash with Everton looks set to be Liverpool’s final visit to Goodison Park.
Everton are expected to move into their new home at Bramley Moore Dock next season, so they’ll be hosting the Reds elsewhere next term – so long as they stay in the Premier League. Sean Dyche’s side have had a mixed week, beating Wolves 4-0 after losing by the same scoreline at Manchester United.
The hosts will be desperate to dent their rivals’ title hopes with a Merseyside derby win, but Liverpool make this trip having won 11 of their 14 games so far.
Goals to dry up for Everton
With four goals scored in each of Everton’s last two games, it’s tempting to back a high-scoring affair here. However, those two matches were a lot less eventful according to the underlying numbers, with the Toffees accumulating 1.6 Expected Goals and conceding 1.9.
The Toffees were edged out by 0.5 xG in a four-goal loss at Old Trafford and won by just 0.2 xG in their comprehensive midweek win. With Liverpool outscoring the visitors 6-5 across the previous six meetings at Goodison, it’s easy to see this being close.
Dyche won’t want his team to give much away early on and so far they’ve seen four of their seven home games goalless at the break. With the Reds scoring 10 of their 16 away goals in the Premier League after half-time, it wouldn’t be a huge surprise if this one was level after 45 minutes.
Reds to prove too strong
On average, Everton’s first goal conceded this term has come just after an hour. They should eventually be outclassed here, as the Toffees have lost four of their five clashes with the top 10 this term. That record is even worse considering they are yet to meet any of the top four.
Meanwhile, Liverpool have won five of seven away games, including victories at each of the bottom four. They’ve tended to do their best work in the second half, with Salah tending to wrap games up with a late goal. The forward has scored in his last seven Premier League appearances, while he has six strikes across his previous eight meetings with Everton.
With a real milestone in prospect here, back his (potential) farewell tour to continue with another goal and all three points.
