Faroe Islands vs Spain Predictions

Spain continue their rebuilding job this week, as Luis Enrique continues to lead the Spanish towards the European Championships. They head to the Faroe Islands, which is set to be one of their more straightforward clashes in the group. With the top two making it to the Euros, there’s little fear of missing out from the Spanish. Despite that, the pressure is on them to qualify in style, as they look to improve on a poor 2018 which left more questions than answers for the 2010 World Cup winners.

The Faroe Islands are coming off two defeats in their opening two qualifying games. While they were never expected to make the Euros, the hosts will be looking to avoid a second dismal qualifying campaign. They were comfortably beaten against Portugal and Switzerland in the qualifying campaign for the World Cup, while the Faroes only home victory was a narrow 1-0 success over Andorra.

Spain cruised to the World Cup, but they ended up out in the last 16 after the Julen Lopetegui affair. Enrique is trying to renew a team which rested on the heroes of 2010 for too long. The former Barcelona boss was the one to tweak Barcelona’s style to take them to their first post-Guardiola Champions League success, so he seems like a solid choice. Their early wins over England and Croatia in the Nations League helped, but defeats to those two in the reverse fixtures left Enrique under pressure.

Now the Spanish are unlikely to face a major test until the tournament, as they have an incredibly winnable group. However, the Spanish did start off their qualifying campaign with a couple of understated victories. Following a 1-0 success over Bosnia, they beat Spain 2-1 and Malta 2-0. They were solid results, but nothing spectacular. However, the format of this qualifying group means that the Spanish don’t really have to push themselves to make it to the Euros.

The Faroes scored just four goals in the previous qualifying campaign, conceding only 16. Their games were rarely thrillers, which could point to another straightforward victory for the away side. Spain scored the majority of their goals at home on the way to the 2018 World Cup, while they conceded 0.3 goals per game in their previous campaign. That has us backing under 3.5 goals in this clash, along with a win for the Spanish.
