FC Copenhagen vs Kairat Almaty Predictions
- Both teams have not scored in Copenhagen’s last three matches
- Both teams have not scored in four of Kairat’s last six games
- Both clubs are in the bottom four of the Champions League standings
Struggling sides clash in Copenhagen
Two of the bottom four clubs at the half-way mark in the league phase meet at Parken Stadium on Wednesday in a Champions League clash that could virtually end their hopes of progression.
Copenhagen regained some lost confidence with a 1-0 derby win over Brondby on Sunday, although they remain down in fourth in the Superliga table. A contested penalty was enough for them to claim a 1-0 win and end a recent goal drought that had seen them beaten 2-0 by Vejle and 4-0 by Tottenham.
They were solid at the back throughout, but there is a clear lack of penetration and invention around their opponents’ penalty area. That could be a problem against a Kairat side that have not exactly added much to the Champions League this term.
Kairat could be out of kilter
To be fair to the Kazakh champions, it is not through the lack of trying as they have registered 49 shots across their four games, which is more than the likes of Spurs, Napoli, Ajax and Eintracht Frankfurt – plus Copenhagen.
Their problem is that only 13 of those attempts have been on target and only two have gone in, making them the joint-lowest scorers in the competition.
Opposing goals looks like the way to go in this clash with Kairat also at a slight disadvantage now because their domestic league has finished – although that may mean they don’t have to make the 6,300km journey to Denmark the day before the game. Still, Copenhagen should be able to harness home advantage and some renewed confidence into scraping a 1-0 win in this early kick-off.
