When the groups were drawn, this clash between Turkish side Fenerbahce and Dutch side Ajax might have been billed as a battle between the top two sides in the group. Instead, it’s a clash between third and fourth place, and a defeat for either side would be a serious problem.

Fenerbahce, normally such a strong side at home, were thrashed 3-1 in their opening group game by Norwegian side Molde. They played much better on their trip to Celtic, a 2-2 draw was a pretty good result, but it still leaves them in a tricky position heading into the game against Ajax.

Ajax are at the top of the Dutch Eredivisie and they are favourites to regain that title. They earned a big away win at the weekend beating Heracles 2-0. Still, their form in European football so far this season has been poor. They crashed out of Champions League qualifying and they’ve now been held to draws by Celtic and Molde.
