This won’t be a game Figueirense’s players are looking forward to very much. They were beaten 4-0 in a crunch six-pointer at Vitoria last weekend, a result which ensured they were relegated from Serie A and they may face the wrath of their fans here after a really disappointing campaign. They come into this game without a win in 9 matches in all competitions but their opponents won’t be any more confident having gone 8 games without a win themselves.

Both sides have looked very poor at the back in recent weeks. It’s just 2 clean sheets in 10 home games for Figueirense and certainly their defence was very poor again last weekend. Fluminense have gone 9 games without a clean sheet though so there should be hope for them at the other end at least. The visitors are battling it out for a place in the Copa Sudamericana next season and victory here will all but assure they do at least achieve that so they should come with a pretty positive mentality and may feel if they can score early in this, there is a chance that the host’s heads will drop and that they will run away with it.

Over the course of the season neither side have been involved in that many high-scoring games but in recent weeks that trend has started to change so there looks to be some value here in backing this to have a few goals, with both sides looking very poor at the back right now. 6 of Fluminense’s last 9 games have had over 2.5 goals and both teams have scored in 8 of those matches. Figueirense haven’t been scoring as many but there is a mistake in this Fluminense defence and with home advantage, they should get a few opportunities in this game, even if they struggle at the other end.

Therefore, backing over 2.5 goals at 23/20 might be worth a punt.
