Finland vs Italy Predictions

Finland claimed a 1-0 win over Greece in midweek to keep the pressure on the Group J leaders Italy who were also victorious as they beat Armenia 3-1 away to maintain their 100% record in qualifying.

The stats suggest that Finland are capable of picking up a point on Sunday despite the fact that they have never beaten Italy before and their opponents are yet to drop any points.

Italy have never lost against Finland before with the pair meeting on twelve separate occasions and the last six meetings between the two countries have all produced under 2.5 goals. Italy won the pairs reverse fixture 2-0 back in March thanks to goals from Barella and teenage forward Kean but the youngster has not been selected this time around.

The form of both teams suggests they could cancel each other out this weekend, as Finland have won all of their last four international matches and Italy have won each of their last six matches. We’re not exp[ecting many goals in this game as has been the trend between the pair in recent years but also because under 2.5 goals have been produced in Finland’s last five games.

Italy have conceded a goal in each of their last two international matches and that will give Finland hope that they can pinch a goal, and we believe they are going to need to score to claim a point as Italy have scored in all of their last six internationals. Finland haven’t conceded a goal in any of their last four international matches and should prove a tough nut to crack for the Italians.

Finland have only lost one of their last twelve home games and Italy have dropped points in two of their last four away games, which is why we feel the hosts have enough about them to hold the former World Cup winners to a draw this weekend. Pukki is in good form for his club and his country so Itlay will have to keep an eye on his movement in and around the penalty area this weekend.

We’re confident that under 2.5 goals will be scored in Sunday’s match and have predicted a final scoreline of 1-1. Both teams are in good form and look odds on to qualify from Group J. Italy haven’t been at their very best in recent years but look to have a good system in place now and it is hard to see Finland doing enough to win the game. This fixture is so often tight and tense but usually, Italy win, however, this time Finland are in good form and have the home advantage so we’re going with a draw.
