Viola can claim crucial win

Fiorentina can bring the Coppa Italia winners back down to earth with a bump they host Bologna on Sunday at Stadio Artemio Franchi.

Bologna did brilliantly to beat Milan 1-0 in the final on Wednesday, but those celebrations will have gone on for a long time after lifting their first silverware in over 50 years, which makes the visitors worth opposing as narrow favourites.

They can still qualify for the Champions League, but need a lot to go right and their focus might not be fully on this fixture.

Backing Raffaele Palladino’s hosts as underdogs this season would have resulted in a 2.85-unit profit, with four wins from their 11 games as an underdog.

Bologna are two places above Fiorentina in the table, but the sides are separated by just three points. Bologna, in seventh, have won 16 and lost six of their 36 games, while Fiorentina have 17 wins and 11 defeats.

Fiorentina’s defence is in fine form, having kept five clean sheets in seven home games in Serie A.

Fiorentina are in form at home, having been winners in six of their last eight Serie A games at Stadio Artemio Franchi. They have lost just one of their last nine on home soil.

Fiorentina should get a goal here. They have scored an average of two goals a game in their eight home games against other top-half teams this season.

They may be able to edge out Bologna in a close game, with a 2-1 home win the correct-score pick. Both teams have scored in four of Fiorentina’s last six Serie A games and six of their 17 wins this season were by a 2-1 scoreline.
