      Fiorentina vs Tottenham Hotspur Predictions

Fiorentina’s dramatic 2-1 win over Inter Milan at the weekend allowed them to open up a four point lead over their Serie A rivals and keep their faint title hopes alive.

They came from a goal behind to grab a last gasp winner as three players were sent off in the final ten minutes in a frantic finale to the match. This extended Fiorentina’s unbeaten streak to five matches in all competitions.

This leaves them in 3rd place in Serie A, but an eight point gap between them and in form leaders Juventus looks like it will be difficult to overturn. They are two points ahead of Roma in 4th and Inter in 5th though.

The Italians Europa League group stages didn’t go quite to plan though. They only managed to amass ten points from their six group matches in a less than challenging group. They will have been hoping for more considering they had to face Basel, Lech Poznan, and Belenenses.

Tottenham Hotspur had a better time of it in an arguably more difficult group. They had to face off against Anderlecht, Monaco, and Qarabag and managed to finish top of the group with a return of 13 points.

This was just the start of what could be an incredibly good season for Spurs. They are in an excellent position to challenge for the Premier League title, with just two points separating them from top of the table Leicester.

Spurs are also the form side in the division having won each of their last seven matches in all competitions, including an impressive performance to beat Manchester City at the Etihad on Sunday.

But this title challenge could well affect their performance in the Europa League. Claiming an historic Premier League title will be at the forefront of their minds, and as such we could see a slightly weaker team put out by Mauricio Pochettino on Thursday.

These two sides met up in the same round of the Europa League last season, with Fiorentina coming out on top after a 2-0 win at home in the 2nd leg.

Spurs would be very happy with a draw in Italy on Thursday, as a clean slate to build upon at White Hart Lane would be excellent for them. As such I think Spurs will set out to limit the home sides attacking threat with Pochettino’s trademark high pressing style. This makes odds of 7/10 for Under 2.5 Goals look good value to me, and I’m predicting a 1-1 draw at 5/1 as well.
