Over 2.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

At least three goals have been scored in five of Austria Vienna’s last six matches and in FC Ilves’ last two away games. Austria Vienna’s last four Europa Conference League qualifiers have all gone over the 2.5-goal mark too.

FK Austria Vienna 2-1

Reason for tip

Austria Vienna should be in better physical shape than they were for the first leg and can nab a 2-1 victory to take the tie to extra-time if their pressing game bears fruit. However, the Violets’ propensity to concede goals in pre-season — including three against Porto and seven against Bohemians — suggests Ilves can get on the scoresheet again too.

FK Austria Vienna vs Ilves Predictions

  • At least three goals have been scored in five of Austria Vienna’s last six matches
  • At least three goals have been scored in FC Ilves’ last two away games
  • At least three goals have been scored in Austria Vienna’s last four Europa Conference League qualifiers

Conference League clash looks good for goals

Goals look the safest play when unreliable Austria Vienna seek to overturn a 2-1 first-leg deficit against an FC Ilves side that could be without their first-choice goalkeeper for Wednesday’s Europa Conference League qualifier.

The Finnish Cup winners were seconds away from earning a solid 2-0 advantage to take to the Austrian capital this week when a stoppage-time strike from Brazilian centre-back Lucas Galvao changed the complexion of the tie.

The goal followed one of the 11 corners Austria Vienna earned against FC Ilves, who were more than equal to their opponents on the night and could argue they deserved their victory. Goalkeeper Otso Virtanen, who also captain’s the team, was forced off at the break due to injury and it is not certain that he will start on Wednesday even though Ilves had a free weekend for the players to fully recover.

Violets have been shipping goals in pre-season

Austria Vienna got their domestic campaign up and running with a 6-0 drubbing of a regional non-league team in the cup and they should be in better shape for this return clash than perhaps they were for the first leg in Tampere.

The Violets can win the game if their high-pressing game bears fruit, but their propensity to concede goals in pre-season — including three against Porto and seven against Bohemians — suggests Ilves can get on the scoresheet again too.

Goals have been abundant in the Finns’ last two away league contests, offering further evidence that another clash with at least three strikes in the game could be on the cards.
