Celje target another European run

Slovenia’s Celje reached the last 16 of the Conference League last season, and they are aiming to make a winning start to another European run in Wednesday’s visit to Albania.

Hosts Egnatia have only won two European ties in their history, including their 7-2 aggregate win over Petrocub Hincesti in the last round of Champions League qualifying. Across the last three seasons, they’ve drawn 4-4 at home to Ararat-Armenia and lost 4-2 to Slovenian side Olimpija Ljubljana.

Celje built last season’s European run on some impressive away results. They won 3-2 at Azerbaijan’s Sabah, 5-0 at Swiss side Lugano, and 2-0 at Czechia’s Banik Ostrava in qualifying. In the knockout rounds of the Conference League, they won 3-2 at Kosovo’s Drita and 2-0 at AEK Athens.
