Can the Cypriots pick up their first win?

Omonia’s season began back in July when they were involved in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers but they lost both legs of their first-round tie with Dinamo Zagreb and exited qualifying. They then fell into the Europa League qualifiers and defeated Flora over two legs before losing to Antwerp and were left to contend with UEFA’s newest competition the Europa Conference League. However, they are winless in five matches in a competitive group alongside Basel and Qarabag.

In fact, both sides teams are without a win and will be hoping to rectify that in this meeting with the matchday one head-to-head ending 0-0. Omonia picked up a credible draw in Qarabag in their most recent European outing while at home they have picked up just a point despite scoring in both encounters. With Kairat conceding an average of three goals in their two away fixtures in the group I’m expecting plenty of goals here and particularly for the hosts.

Minnows looking to cause an upset

Kazakhstan’s Kairat Almaty are one of eight clubs making their full European debut this season but it has been a tough experience for the visitors. They could have taken something from their last group game but threw away a 2-1 lead over group leaders Basel and were ultimately beaten 3-2.

It was their fourth straight loss and was the fourth game in succession that both teams have scored in. One thing Kairat’s matches have guaranteed is goals and plenty of them with an average of 3.4 per game.

Neither will want to end the campaign winless so it should be an entertaining game despite both teams being out of the competition. We are predicting both teams to score and over 2.5 goals but also an Omonia win as their experience in European competition should come to the fore.
