Tricolor backed to enhance strong home record

Fluminense have made a pleasing start to the new Serie A campaign and Roger Machado’s side are fancied to grind out another positive result at home to Santos on Thursday night.

Fifth last term, Tricolor sit seventh in the early standings after collecting five points from their opening three matches, results which have extended their unbeaten sequence in the top flight to 12 matches stretching back to 2020 (W7, L5).

Fluminense are extremely consistent in Rio de Janeiro, losing just three of their last 22 Serie A starts, and they go into this midweek clash having claimed 16 points from their last six league matches at Maracana.

Tricolor beat Santos 3-1 here last term, one of nine away defeats for Fernando Diniz’ men in the 2020 campaign, and we expect them to repeat the trick this week.

While Santos have made a fair start to the season with four points collected in their first three fixtures, they were hammered 3-0 at Bahia on the opening day, prolonging their disappointing form on the road.

A trip to the Maracana is far from ideal for Santos as they look to gain some confidence and fluency on their travels, and we think another away loss beckons for Peixe here via a 1-0 score-line.
