Reason For FSV Mainz 05 vs RB Leipzig Predictions

  • Leipzig have scored 63 goals in their 26 Bundesliga matches this campaign.
  • Mainz have won only four of their 13 home league assignments.
  • Leipzig have led at the break in 12 of their 26 league encounters this term.

Leipzig aim to bounce back

Leipzig dropped down to fourth in the Bundesliga standings, with Borussia Monchengladbach moving up to third, after their 1-1 draw with Freiburg last weekend.

The Red Bulls were behind for most of the match and equalised through Yussuf Poulsen in the 77th minutes but nearly went away pointless after Robin Koch struck for Freiburg in injury time, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside by VAR.

Leipzig undoubtedly looked shaky at times but they won the shot count 19-6 in that match and had 61 per cent possession and the stalemate extended their unbeaten run to seven matches in the league.

As part of that run they have locked horns with the likes of Bayern Munich, Borussia Monchengladbach, Schalke and Bayer Leverkusen and they should be able to assert their authority over lowly Mainz, who have been in a relegation battle for most of the season.

Mainz lack attacking thrust

Hosts Mainz have managed to win only four of their 13 home assignments this campaign – beating Paderborn, Eintracht Frankfurt, Cologne and Hertha Berlin, all of whom are sat outside the top eight in the division, at the Opel Arena.

They have also managed only 15 goals in their own backyard in the Bundesliga this term, with only Dusseldorf, Hertha Berlin and Werder Bremen managing fewer strikes.

Leipzig, meanwhile, have been superb on their travels, winning seven of their 13 encounters away from home, scoring 30 goals. They avoided defeats away to both Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich and obliterated Schalke 5-0 in February.

They have goals in plentiful supply with Timo Werner netting 27 goals in 36 matches and midfield duo Marcel Sabitzer and Emil Forsberg also reaching double figures in terms of goals in all competitions.

Leipzig set for comfortable win

As well as impressing away from home, Leipzig have also been a strong-starting side, having scored 27 first-half goals this season, a tally bettered only by Bayern Munich.

As for Mainz, they have been trailing at the break in ten of their 25 matches this season and a shrewd punting strategy could be to back Leipzig to be leading at half-time and go on to claim maximum points, as they did in the reverse fixture in November when they destroyed Mainz 8-0 in a club-record win.

Another comfortable win looks to be on the cards and a 3-0 correct score prediction is an attractive price.
