Tip Reasoning

  • Aberdeen have lost their last three Premiership away games.
  • Rangers have won 22 of their last 24 Premiership home games.
  • Aberdeen have scored five goals in their five Premiership away games of 2021-22.

Emotional night on cards at Ibrox

It will be an emotional occasion at Ibrox on Wednesday when Rangers play their first game following the death of former manager, chairman and club legend, Walter Smith. It could impact the game in a positive or negative way for the hosts, but our expectation is that the champions will be going all out for the victory that will keep them clear of the chasing pack.

Aberdeen are not among their rivals at the top end of the table, having endured a terrible sequence of results in September and October – until Saturday’s much-needed home win over Hibs.

The Dons dug in and defended the early lead they were given by Christian Ramirez, but it will take a lot more to keep out a highly-motivated Gers side in midweek. The Light Blues appear to have come through their own, much shorter, sticky patch and are now on an eight-match Premiership unbeaten run.

Steven Gerrard’s side are not scoring as many goals or keeping as many clean sheets as their invincible campaign of 2020-21, but they have been getting the job done more times than not. Their home record since the start of last season makes it impossible to consider anything other than another three-point haul here – particularly when you factor in Aberdeen’s woeful away record this season.

Rangers’ record offers hope for Dons goal

Stephen Glass’ side have lost their last three on the road, which includes the 2-1 defeat at second-bottom Dundee that really raised the calls for the manager to be sacked to a cacophony. Over a longer period, the Dons have lost nine of their last 15 away league games and were beaten 4-0 on both of their last two visits to Ibrox.

However, Rangers’ recent defensive record at home offers them hope of scoring a goal on Wednesday while Glass’ side have found the net five times in five prior away games this term.

There is evidence to suggest Aberdeen can grab a goal and value about taking that bet too. Our preference in the correct score betting is for a 2-1 Rangers win that matches their most frequent scoreline of the campaign so far.
