Fulham vs Newcastle Predictions
- Newcastle have won the last six meetings between these two
- The Magpies are unbeaten this season
- Anthony Gordon netted 11 league goals last term
Visitors could assert dominance
Newcastle have had a strong start to the season, winning three and drawing one of their four league games, and they can extend that with a win against Fulham.
The Magpies have managed to get results without playing especially well and if they click, they could be a real danger to the teams aiming for the top six.
Eddie Howe’s men had to dig in when 1-0 down to Wolves last time out but two fine long-range efforts from Fabian Schar and Harvey Barnes respectively saw them take all three points.
A lack of European football is a real asset that the Magpies have on their rivals and while Fulham aren’t playing in a continental competition they did have the slog of an EFL Cup game against Preston on Tuesday.
That match finished 1-1 in normal time before North End prevailed 16-15 in a mammoth penalty shootout.
Newcastle will be the fresher side coming into this game as a result and their recent record against these opponents is impressive.
The visitors are unbeaten in their last nine meetings between the two and have won the last six.
The pair met in three head-to-heads last season and Newcastle won all three without conceding.
Business as usual for Fulham
Marco Silva’s men have been in solid if unspectacular form to start the new campaign, recording a win, two draws and a loss from their four fixtures.
They have faced two of the three promoted teams in that run and sterner tests await. The home side will have been particularly disappointed with the way that they allowed West Ham to record a late equaliser last weekend.
Newcastle’s strong recent record against these opponents does not show many signs of slowing down in this clash and the Magpies are fancied to get the win.
Gordon could star
Of the 11 combined games that these two teams have played this season, none have gone over 3.5 goals so don’t expect an automatic high-scoring affair.
To add to that, five of the last seven meetings between these two have gone under 2.5 goals so it may pay to side with Newcastle to win this one 2-0 for correct score purposes.
Anthony Gordon has already opened his account for the season and was the second-top scorer behind Alexander Isak with 11 league goals last term.
Isak is an injury doubt, meaning Gordon could play through the middle, and the former Everton man is fancied to get on the scoresheet.
