Tip Reasoning

  • Sheffield United have scored in six consecutive away league games, five of which saw both teams register.
  • Both teams have scored in four of the last five Fulham league games.
  • Fulham have not conceded more than once in any of their last 11 league games.

Fulham’s form not heading in the right direction

Sheffield United bring a three-game winning streak to Craven Cottage on Monday and Fulham’s recent drop in form suggests they might be able to escape with a draw.

The Blades have had a reset under new boss Paul Heckingbotham, although they did return to their familiar three at the back system just before Slavisa Jokanovic’s exit. Players who were struggling for form a few weeks ago are flourishing again and this is a good time for United to be taking on the leaders.

Fulham have not won a game in a month and some of their results since the end of November are somewhat underwhelming. It all started when Marco Silva rotated his regulars, thinking that the fringe men would take care of struggling Derby at home. Following that 0-0 draw, the Cottagers drew away to a Preston team about to sack their manager, at home to a Bournemouth team that has stopped scoring goals and away to 13th-placed Luton.

Loosening leaders’ defence suggests Blades can bag a goal

The Blades are level on points withe the Hatters and can take real encouragement from the way Luton caused Fulham real problems in the second half. Silva’s defence no longer looks as secure as it did in October and early November when they kept five consecutive clean sheets prior to the last international break.

Both teams to score should prove profitable here with Heckingbotham’s side arriving with decent away form built on an attacking threat that has sen them score in six consecutive matches away from Bramall Lane.

Fulham have only failed to score once in 11 home league games this season – when top scorer Aleksandr Mitrovic was rested against the Rams – so we have no doubt the hosts will oblige with a goal themselves too.

A correct score prediction of 1-1 stands out because the last three Fulham games have finished that way, but the last two meetings between these have also resulted in tight games, a 1-0 Fulham win and another 1-1 draw in Sheffield.
