Fulham vs Wolverhampton Predictions
- Fewer than three goals have been scored in three of Fulham’s four Premier League home games
- All four of Wolves’ away league games have featured fewer than three goals.
- Fulham have scored no more than one goal in any of their last six matches
Wolves’ plight may worsen
Wolves’ Premier League plight could worsen this weekend when they travel to Craven Cottage to face an equally desperate Fulham side, who sit only one place and three points above the relegation zone.
There is an air of panic around Molineux after fears that their summer recruitment was not good enough appear to have been laid bare for all to see in the opening few months of the campaign. The atmosphere was toxic at their last home league game and, although they received backing until the end against Chelsea in the EFL Cup on Wednesday, the result and mistakes they made were all too familiar.
However, there is a potential area of weakness that they exploit this weekend that could earn them a foothold in a game very few people think they can win.
Pereira may try aerial route
Fulham have won the fewest ratio of aerial duels in the Premier League this season (42.6%) and given the height that Wolves have through the middle of their team, it would be a dereliction of duty if Vitor Pereira does not instruct his team to put the Cottagers under pressure with long balls.
Calvin Bassey has looked a little suspect this season, particularly since his partnership with Joachim Andersen was broken up, and Bernd Leno has never been the most proactive at coming for crosses.
Going long from the back would also cut out the possibility of more mistakes like the ones that have cost Wolves goals against Burnley and Chelsea in the last week. Sam Johnstone will return in goal and that could shore things up to a certain extent too.
Fear of losing could rule clash
While Wolves could be competitive at Craven Cottage, they still may not have enough confidence and cohesion to come away with the three points they so desperately need. Fulham have lost their last four Premier League games but three of those were away and the home loss was against an in-form Arsenal.
Marco Silva’s men have beaten both Brentford and Leeds at home this term, although on both occasions they had Rodrigo Muniz starting with Raul Jimenez coming off the bench. The Brazilian looks likely to miss out again on Saturday and with Jimenez having come off in their midweek EFL Cup win over Wycombe after feeling something in his side, there are concerns about Fulham lacking punch up front.
This clash could be a typical arm wrestle between two teams desperate not to lose and unwilling to take many risks in order to win. Fewer than three goals has landed in three of the Whites’ four home league games this term and all four of Wolves’ Premier League road trips.
