Euro hosts can finish preparation in style

Germany get set for their final preparation game before they host the 2024 European Championships and they will be hoping to sign off with a victory against Greece.

The Germans were frustrated in a goalless draw against Ukraine at the Max-Morlock-Stadion in Nuremberg on Monday, although they won the shot count 27-6 and they can be criticised for not taking their chances.

Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann is likely to go strong against Greece, perhaps even opting for the team he will start against Scotland in the first match of the Euros in a week’s time.

In March’s friendly double-header, Germany defeated France (0-2) and the Netherlands (2-1) so they should be too strong for Greece, who failed to qualify for the European Championships following a penalty shootout defeat to Georgia after a goalless draw.

Toothless Greeks set to struggle

Greece have improved in recent years and they showed that when chasing home France and the Netherlands in Group B of Euro qualifying.

That said, they lost to nil on trips to France and the Netherlands and that means they have failed to score in five of their last 11 internationals, also firing a blank against Lithuania in a friendly.

So Germany can prevail although it seems likely to be low-scoring rather than one where the shackles come off.

Nagelsmann’s side have scored three or more in only one of their last 11 internationals and that came against the USA in a friendly in October.

With that in mind, backing Germany to win and under 3.5 goals could be the approach to take and correct-score punters can side with a 2-0 victory.
