Port Vale Double Chance (Win or Draw)
Reasoning
Wolverhampton vs Port Vale Predictions
- Wolves failed to win any of their final 11 games of last season
- Wolves have won only four of their last 19 home matches
- Port Vale won ten of their 13 games in cup competitions last season
Vale a value play
Wolves will be hoping for a return to the Premier League next season, but before the start of the Championship season Cesar Peixoto’s men will meet Port Vale in an EFL Cup tie on Friday night.
Joao Neves has made a big-money move to Aston Villa, but Wolves have retained plenty of quality from last season’s Premier League squad and preparation for a second-tier campaign has long been underway.
Rafiki Said, Ladislav Krejci, Raul Jimenez and Kieran Trippier all look good signings for Peixoto’s side, but a contest against Port Vale doesn’t rate a walkover if Wolves are slightly under-prepared for their season opening contest.
Port Vale will be strong contenders for promotion from League Two this season with Jon Brady’s men hoping to respond from last term’s relegation.
Kyle Dempsey, Jackson Smith, Lewis Montsma and Max Watters rate good additions for the Valiants, who have gone well in a series of pre-season friendly matches.
Team news is key in the early rounds of the EFL Cup and it remains to be seen how strong Wolves will be for their first assignment of the campaign.
However, it’s unlikely that Port Vale will be going off any bigger than the current 10-1 on offer.
