      Estoril to Win

      Reason for tip

Ibrahima Ba and Gustavo Sa rate as big losses for Famalicao and Vila Nova may not be able to repeat last season’s excellent effort. Estoril look good value to open the season with three points.

      Estoril 2-0

      Reason for tip

Famalicao hit only 15 goals in 17 away league matches last season, and while it was a positive campaign, they could struggle at Estoril. The 54 goals scored by the Canaries last term was bettered only by Porto, Sporting, Benfica and Braga and the home side have the firepower to win 2-0.

      Estoril vs Famalicao Predictions

      • Only Portugal’s top-four teams scored more than Estoril’s 54 league goals last season
      • Estoril lost only six of 17 home league games last term
      • Famalicao scored just 15 times in their 17 away league matches last season

      Estoril set to thrill

Famalicao enjoyed an excellent campaign which saw them finish fifth in the Portuguese top flight last season and only three points away from the European qualification places.

Vila Nova get the new campaign underway with a trip to Estoril on Friday night but it may not be a happy return to action for Carlos Carvalhal’s men.

Famalicao lost two of last season’s star performers in Ibrahima Ba and Gustavo Sa to Sporting and Nottingham Forest in the summer, and while there have been some additions to last season’s squad, the quality has not been replaced.

Vila Nova look to be operating with a weaker squad than last term and Estoril could close the gap.

The Canaries finished a fair way behind Famalicao last term, but Vasco Matos’ men scored 54 league goals last term and that was a total bettered only by the league top-four teams.

Estoril will likely be on the front foot once again in the opening league fixture of the season and there is enough in the price to fancy a side which lost only six of their 17 Portuguese top-flight matches last term.
