A typically tight African encounter

Following the disappointment of a group stage exit from the recent AFCON tournament, Ghana must dust themselves down ahead of this new qualifying cycle.

Kicking off with a home game can be seen as a positive for Ghana, especially as they welcome #102-ranked Madagascar, a side they sit 42 places above in the FIFA world rankings. 

However, Ghana’s games during the last qualifying cycle were often hard-fought, low-scoring affairs, with five of the six games resulting with two or fewer goals. Coincidentally, two of their three home wins during that cycle ended 2-0, a scoreline that we like the look of for small stakes in this clash.

Madagascar are after a 2019 throwback

After reaching the quarter final stage in their only AFCON appearance back in 2019, Madagascar were disappointed to miss out by a single point during the last qualification cycle. Notably though, they ground out positive results against stronger nations, including a 1-1 draw against the highly-rated Ivory Coast.

That result shows that you must underestimate Madagascar at your own peril, that is not to mention the fact that they beat Ghana 2-1 back in 2015. As such, we are avoiding the W-D-W markets in this encounter as the value appears to lie elsewhere.

We are sticking with a main prediction of under 2.5 goals in this clash at a shade of odds on, but when all is said and done, Ghana should realistically have enough to get the job done and end their rotten run of results.
