Gil Vicente vs Braga Predictions

  • Gil Vicente have drawn three of their last four Primeira Liga matches.
  • Sporting Braga have drawn four of their last five Primeira Liga contests.
  • Both teams have scored in the last four Gil Vicente games and the last three Sporting Braga matches.
  • The match finished 1-1 when these two sides last met in May.

Back Braga to bag a draw in Barcelos

Gil Vicente have proven to be tough to beat to all but the very best in Portugal and should provide a stern test for Sporting Braga on Monday.

The visitors arrive on the back of a six-game undefeated run themselves and will be in no mood to give an inch to a side just four points behind in the table.

Carlos Carvalhal’s men have lost only once in the league this term – to champions Sporting back in August – and have collected an impressive haul of eight points from four away trips. Carvalhal has most of his first-choice squad members available and it has allowed him to rotate successfully in recent weeks as Sporting have won back-to-back Europa League games during this unbeaten run.

Both sides look tough to beat

During Thursday’s 1-0 victory over Ludogorets in Bulgaria, Braga restricted their hosts to just one shot on goal and appear to have regained the mean defensive streak that aided a fourth-placed finish last season.

But they again failed to gain a cushion in a match they dominated, which has come back to bite Braga twice recently when Santa Clara and Boavista plundered late equalisers.

Gil Vicente could do likewise, having scored six times in their four previous home games of this campaign. They managed to give Porto a bit of a scare on their visit to Barcelos last month and notched twice away to an Estoril side that had previously only conceded five in seven last time out.

That is why we fancy the draw in this match, which could finish along similar lines to last season’s 1-1 outcome in the corresponding fixture. Two of Gil Vicente’s last three draws have finished 2-2, but Braga have only once conceded more than one goal in their last six, hence the 1-1 final score prediction.
