Tip Reasoning

Both Port Vale and Gillingham have endured pretty poor campaigns this season and without too many signs of improvement, each of these two find themselves starting to hover dangerously close to the drop-zone. Inconsistency has been a big problem for both and, even when they’ve played well, both have struggled to win with any sort of regularity.

The saving grace for Gillingham here could be the fact that Port Vale really have been abysmal on the road this season. With this in mind, backing The Gills to win wouldn’t be the worst bet in the world; however, at a better price, ‘Gillingham to Score Over 1.5 Goals’ catches the eye.

They haven’t exactly excelled going forward this season, but Gillingham do have a positive goal-difference on their own patch and have shown, at times, that they can hurt teams. They’ve also defended much better on home soil than they have away. If they can keep things tight against a woeful Port Vale attack, then they really could enjoy themselves at the other end.

Having notched 17 goals at Priestfield, Gillingham might have only scored at least twice on five occasions but, considering the way Port Vale have defended on the road, it certainly wouldn’t be a surprise if this stat became six after Saturday.

When playing away from the comforts at home, Port Vale have conceded 25 goals, shipping at least two on eight occasions. On top of this, the visitors have conceded at least twice in each of their last three in League One.

After three draws on the spin (scored twice in two of those) Gillingham have a good opportunity to both win and score a few goals and are fancied to do just that against a poor visiting team.
