Greenock Morton vs Aberdeen Predictions
Greenock Morton are enjoying another successful season this term, with their main focus being on some potential major silverware in the domestic game. They have made it all the way to the Scottish League Cup semi final, and will be hoping to stop one of the big teams from lifting the trophy.
They made it through the group stages top of their group thanks to wins over Albion Rovers, Clyde, Kilmarnock, and Berwick Rangers. After that they knocked out top flight side Hamilton Academical and then beat Dundee United in the quarter finals.
This all came amidst some pretty poor Scottish Championship form, but recently that aspect of their season has picked up as well. They come into this match having won four of their last five games in all competitions. Much of this success can be attributed to the excellent form of Ross Forbes. The 27 year old midfielder has four goals and six assists to his name so far this season, whilst fellow star player Jai Quitongo has netted six times as well, with four of those coming in the League Cup. These are definitely two to watch for Aberdeen.
The visitors aren’t short of quality going forward either though. Adam Rooney and Niall McGinn each have four goals to their name this season and are always a threat. This is despite Aberdeen’s relatively poor and low scoring start to the season. One of the two players have scored in three of their last four games.
Aberdeen have picked their form up considerably recently, winning each of their last five games and losing just one of their domestic games all season. Away from home they have won three, drawn one, and lost one of their competitive matches this season. With Celtic already being four points clear and with a game in hand at the top of the Premiership, the cup competitions will take even higher priority this season.
A month or two ago this might have been a close game, but Aberdeen have really raised the bar recently. Three of their last five games in all competitions have been by more than a single goal margin, including each of their last two. These have all came against top flight opposition as well, and despite Greenock Morton’s good form at the moment they haven’t had to face up against any side of Aberdeen’s quality. Backing an Aberdeen -1.5 Asian Handicap Win at 1.700 looks good value to me, so I’m going for that along with a 3-0 correct score prediction at 6/1.
