      Grindavik vs Vikingur Reykjavik Predictions

Two of last season’s strugglers meet in the weekend’s opening game in Iceland, with the pair desperate to avoid relegation once again. Vikingur head into this game sat in the bottom two, but will they be able to pull themselves away from the drop by securing a result in Saturday’s game? The hosts are aiming to stay clear of the drop zone, while a victory could even push them into the European spots at this early point in the campaign. Can Grindavik pick up another home victory?

The hosts finished just one place above the bottom two last season, so they are clearly making avoiding relegation their big aim here. Grindavik have started off like a side desperate to put distance between themselves and the bottom. Given that they host the league’s second-worst side this weekend, there’s a perfect chance here to put even more daylight between them and Vikingur.

The visitors ended up just six points clear of the drop zone last season, while they could be set for another fight for survival based on early form. While this week brought some small relief in the cup – where they knocked out KA on penalties after a 1-1 draw – the away side are still struggling to get results. They are looking really poor on the road, but is that something they can fix when they head to Grindavik?

The visitors should be concerned, given their winless start to the season away from home. They’ve already lost three times in their opening six matches this term, while the visitors are conceding far too many goals. They’re letting in over two per game on average, having conceded seven times in three away trips. We don’t see them tightening up this weekend, especially given that Grindavik’s 3-1 cup win over Vestri was their third victory in four games.

We are siding with the hosts here, as they’ve hit scoring form at home. That should continue against a Vikingur side who can’t seem to keep a clean sheet. However, the visitors have seen both teams score in all of their away games so far, having scored nine times in their opening six. They’re clearly an open side, which has prompted us to back Grindavik and both teams to score as our tip here.
