Guatemala vs Mexico Predictions

Mexico seeking first Gold Cup win

Defending champions Mexico were held to a 0-0 draw in their CONCACAF Gold Cup opener with Trinidad and Tobago and will be looking to register their first three points against minnows Guatemala in the next round of fixtures in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Guatemala were only handed a place in the main draw the day before the tournament began after Curacao were disqualified and went down 2-0 in their opening fixture to El Salvador.

El Tri may have been held by Trinidad, but they were unlucky not to win after a thoroughly dominant performance.  Mexico enjoyed an incredible 83% possession and created 30 attempts on goal, but they managed just seven on target and the lack of an out-and-out goalscorer with Raul Jimenez injured is a cause for concern moving forward in the competition.

Goals may be an issue for the Mexicans but they should still have enough quality to overcome a Guatemala outfit ranked 116 places below them by Fifa.  

Los Chapines managed just one attempt on target from four attempts in their defeat to El Salvador and we can’t see them troubling a solid Mexican backline on Thursday so a win for the holders to nil looks a strong option.  Given Mexico’s lack of quality in attack they may not run riot, but a comfortable victory remains a strong possibility and 3-0 could be the way to go for a correct score bet.
