Croatian side Hajduk Split held off Slovan Liberec in the Czech Republic for a long time in what was a fiercely contested first leg of the Europa League playoff.

But they couldn’t hold them off for quite long enough and eventually Slovan Liberec broke through their defence and took the lead with 11 minute remaining.

This was Hajduk Split’s first loss in their last 6 matches and they bounced back well at the weekend with a 3-0 win over Osijek in the Croatian top flight. This leaves them in 4^th position in the league with 10 points from their opening 7 games.

Slovan Liberec obviously managed to maintain their unbeaten streak against Hajduk Split and their 2-0 victory against Teplice on Sunday made it 5 wins and 3 draws in their last 8 fixtures in all competitions.

This has left them vying for the top spot in the Czech Liga. They are in 3^rd position in the table, but only 4 points adrift of Sparta Praha at the top of the table after 5 games have been played.

This should be another tight game on Thursday, with the expectation being for Slovan Liberec to take a largely defensive stance.

Hajduk Split didn’t have the best of times against their defence the last time out, so I would think this should be a fairly low scoring game between 2 evenly matched sides.

Backing Under 2.5 goals at 3/4 seems a safe bet with very appealing odds. As far as correct score predictions go, a goalless draw at odds of 8/1 also look like they offer a lot of value.
