Tip Reasoning

  • It’s difficult to make a case for backing either side, with Swindon winless in three games and Harrogate winning just one of their last 10.
  • Under 2.5 goals have been scored in three of Swindon’s last five matches.
  • Harrogate, meanwhile, have failed to score in four of their last seven games.

Swindon attempt to resurrect hopes on Good Friday

A run of three League Two games without victory, two of them defeats, has left Swindon Town’s promotion hopes hanging by a thread as we enter the final few weeks of the fourth-tier season. Ben Garner’s Robins go to Harrogate on Good Friday out of the automatic promotion picture, and trailing Newport County, in the final play-off place, by four points.

While Swindon still boast the fourth-best attacking record in League Two after netting 62 times in their 40 games, they have lacked a cutting edge in recent weeks, being shut-out in each of their last two and seeing under 2.5 goals scored in three of their last five matches, a far cry from the outfit which plundered 11 goals across three games in February.

The Robins’ attacking downturn is matches by that of Harrogate; since the Yorkshire club netted three goals in three successive games in February, they have scored just seven times in 10 outings, failing to net in four of their last seven. Indeed, of those seven goals, three came against relegation-bound Scunthorpe, and the attacking regression of both teams may mean a cagey affair may await.

Back under 2.5 goals when out-of-shape attacks meet

Given that both teams’ attacks have found the going difficult of late, and considering that neither team can offer outstanding value on the win market after Swindon went three without a win and Harrogate won just one of their last 10, under 2.5 goals looks the best play for Friday.

Correct score punters may cast their mind back to November’s return fixture, a 1-1 draw, and back a repeat of that result at Wetherby Road.
