Strong sides to share the spoils at la Ceramica
All but one of Villarreal’s opening six La Liga games have been drawn and The Yellow Submarine may share the spoils again this Sunday in an even looking contest against Real Betis at Estadio de la Ceramica.
Villarreal were one of several stalemate specialists in Spain last term with 13 posted in total and the majority of their matches so far this season have been extremely cagey.
Four of their five draws to date have been goalless, and pragmatic boss Unai Emery is clearly going to stick with his safety first approach, which of course led to his side being crowned UEFA Europa League winners in 2020/21.
The Yellow Submarine sank for the first time this season when succumbing to a stoppage time Cristiano Ronaldo strike away to Manchester United in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night; The Red Devils gaining a modicum of compensation for their defeat in last term’s Europa showpiece.
Villarreal are clearly a resilient outfit though, and they should be prepared for another battle here on Matchday 8 against a strong Betis side that have lost just one of their seven league fixtures, winning three.
Los Verdiblancos travel to la Ceramica on the back of a 3-1 success against Ferencvaros in Hungary on Thursday, a fifth victory in six across all competitions for Manuel Pellegrini’s burgeoning side.
Betis might have to settle for a point this Sunday though with both teams difficult to beat and closely matched based on what we’ve seen in general since the start of the last campaign. This should be an intriguing clash and we’re forecasting it to finish all square at 1-1.
