Hibernian vs Lucerne Predictions

Hibs show vulnerable side

Hibernian hammered Inter Club d’Escaldes 7-3 in the last round but face sterner opposition on Thursday as they Swiss outfit Luzern in the third round of Europa Conference League qualifying.

The Scottish side showed excellent attacking credentials to come from 2-1 down in the first leg, hammering their Andorran opponents 6-1 at Easter Road but continuing an unwanted record at the other end.

They followed that with a 3-2 loss at home in their Scottish Premiership opener to make it six competitive games without a clean sheet, although they have scored in all six of these games, too.

Expect goals at both ends at Easter Road

Luzern are similarly lax at the back, losing 2-1 at St Gallen on Sunday to make it four successive games in which both teams have scored, including both legs of their last Europa Conference League qualifying tie against Djurgardens.

This makes both teams to score an appealing option, and I expect the Swiss visitors to put themselves in a strong position for the return leg.

Luzern can put themselves in strong position

They have faced some tough opponents in recent years in Europe, losing to Feyenoord in 2021/22 and Espanyol in 2019/20, but Hibs are an opponent there for the taking.

Luzern drew their last European tie 1-1 with Djurgarden and the last time they met Scottish opposition back in 2014 they played out two 1-1 draws with St Johnstone, so that’s my choice for a correct score prediction.
