Hibernian out to lay down a marker

It has been a mixed start to the season for Hibs, who have won two of their League Cup ties, with a disappointing 1-0 defeat at the hands of Falkirk sandwiched in-between.

There were three or more goals in both of those victories, 5-0 over Clyde and 4-1 at Bonnyrigg Rose, while Lee Johnson’s side are unbeaten at Easter Road since February.

They also have a strong home record in this competition, winning five successive matches since a semi-final defeat to Celtic in 2019, while six of their last eight have contained in excess of two goals.

Greenock Morton desperately searching for form

Things have not been quite as good for Greenock Morton, who head into this clash on the back of a 2-0 defeat at Clyde and penalty shoot out loss against Falkirk.

Dougie Imrie’s side finished the 2021/22 campaign poorly too, and are in fact on a run of just one win in nine dating back to mid-March.

Their record in the League Cup is patchy too, failing to score in three of their last four on the road, while they have picked up just one win in 11, with defeats including a 4-0 hammering to Motherwell along the way.
