Hibernian vs Queen Of The South Predictions
Hibernian missed out on promotion yet again last season. They finished 3rd in the Scottish Championship and then lost in the semi finals of the playoffs against Falkirk, with the score being an impressive 5-4 on aggregate.
They did manage to alleviate some of their disappointment with a Scottish FA Cup Final win over Rangers though, which overall made another season in the Championship bearable after two consecutive seasons of narrowly missing out on a return to the top flight.
Hibernian’s Scottish FA Cup triumph saw the 2nd tier side put through to the Europa League qualification rounds as well, but their stay in Europe didn’t last very long. They lost 1-0 at home to Brondby in the first leg, but they bounced back with a 1-0 win in Brondby only to be eliminated on penalties. It was a cruel way to go out of the competition but they can take pride in their away performance.
Their participation in Europe did give them safe passage through the newly reformatted Scottish League Cup group stage though, something which Queen of the South had to battle for.
The visitors were drawn in a group including Partick Thistle, Airdrieonians, Queen’s Park, and Stenhousemuir. They opened the competition with wins over Queen’s Park Airdrieonians but predictably lost to Premiership side Partick Thistle. A win against Stenhousemuir put them through as 2nd place finishers with nine points though.
Queen of the South followed this up with a 1-1 draw against the recently relegated Dundee United in their Scottish Championship opener, whereas Hibernian kickstarted their league season with a 2-1 win at probable title challengers Falkirk.
The gap between Hibernian and Falkirk and the rest of the Scottish Championship is huge. Their 70 point haul last season was a huge 28 points more than their opposition and I expect this gap to show on Tuesday. However, the hosts have only kept two clean sheets in their last 11 games and they were known for some high scoring matches towards the end of last season.
Queen of the South have only failed to score once in their last 19 matches in all competitions as well, and they also had a few thrillers towards the end of the campaign. I can’t see either team keeping a clean sheet on Tuesday, so I’m backing a Hibernian Win and Both Teams to Score at incredible value odds of 12/5. I’m going for a 3-1 correct score prediction at 11/1 as well.
