Houston to hold firm at home

Houston should be backed to get a home win over St Louis. The visitors have lost their last four MLS away games and Houston can take advantage.

The hosts have the edge in the standings, with Houston on 20 points with five wins from their 19 games so far, and St Louis having won just three times.

St Louis could not break their losing habit last time, going down 4-2 to Orlando City on Thursday in their latest MLS outing.

Houston should get a goal here. They have scored in eight consecutive MLS games and in 14 of their last 16 league matches.

St Louis are struggling for form, having not won in three games and with four of their last six ending in defeat. They have now gone nine of their last ten MLS matches without a victory.

St Louis have been disappointing in front of goal away from home this season, scoring just seven goals in nine games – an average of 0.78 goals a game on the road. No MLS team has failed to find the net in more games than St Louis’ total of eight.

St Louis have been struggling defensively on the road, going seven away games without keeping a clean sheet. Houston will be confident of finding a way through.

A narrow 1-0 win for Houston looks the most likely outcome. At least one of the teams failed to score in three of the last four MLS meetings between these sides and three of St Louis’ ten defeats this season have been by a 1-0 scoreline.
