Palmeiras vs Botafogo Predictions
- Botafogo are the current Serie A leaders, with Palmeiras in second.
- Both teams have scored in eight of Palmeiras’ last nine home games.
- There have been goals at both ends in six of Botafogo’s last nine away from home.
Top of the table clash in Brazil
Botafogo have made a sensational start to the season as they lead the way in Brazil’s Serie A with 27 points on the board from 11 games.
Fogo face a huge test on Sunday, however, as they make the trip top defending champions and closest challengers Palmeiras.
Short price Palmeiras make little appeal
The hosts as the favourites to win and home advantage may just swing this table topping battle in their favour, as Botafogo have lost two of their last three away from home in the league.
However, the visitors shouldn’t be underestimated and they will of course be desperate to get a result and at least maintain their lead at the top – so the value play looks to be both teams to score.
Clean sheets have been an issue for Palmeiras of late as they have just one in their last six games overall. They have also conceded in eight of their last nine home assignments, although they have scored themselves in each of their last 17 competitive fixtures in a run stretching back to January.
Botafogo have only failed to score in one of their 11 league games, and with Palmeiras looking vulnerable at the back both teams should be capable of getting on the scoresheet at Allianz Parque in Sao Paulo.
Palmeiras hard to oppose at home
Botafogo may lead the way in Serie A, but Palmeiras boast an exceptional home record and they haven’t lost in front of their own fans in any competition since July 2022.
The Periquito Verde have 13 points from a possible 15 in Serie A at this venue and can claim a key win over Fogo even if they do concede. A 3-1 win for the hosts looks a reasonable correct score prediction, as Palmeiras have scored at least three goals in four of their last five at home and exactly three in two of those games.
Backing a visiting player to grab a goal offers more value than going for a usual Palmeiras suspect and Francisco Tiquinho Soares looks the best option. The 32-year-old has nine goals in 10 league games this term, including three in his last two appearances, and can add to his haul on Sunday.
