Reason For Hull City vs Millwall Predictions

  • Hull have scored eight goals in their last four games
  • Millwall have won only one of their five league games since the Championship’s return
  • Hull are without a league clean sheet in 16 games

Hull can enhance survival hopes

Hull’s performances have been full of promise since the season resumed and they look value to claim a precious three points at home to Millwall.

The Tigers had gone 13 league games without a win until claiming a 3-3 draw at Birmingham at the end of June as they adapted to life without key frontman Jarrod Bowen and Kamil Grosicki, who were snapped up by West Ham and West Brom respectively.

Since then, Hull have claimed a 2-1 win at home to Middlesbrough and have held their own despite losing 4-2 at West Brom and 2-1 at Bristol City.

The Tigers have shown their attacking prowess with eight goals in their last four games and they are giving themselves a real shot at avoiding relegation by creating a lot of goalscoring opportunities.

Hull lost the shot count 22-15 against the title-chasing Baggies at the Hawthorns and arguably deserved more against the Robins at Ashton Gate, having had 18 shots to the hosts’ nine.

Malik Wilkes, Josh Magennis and Tom Eaves provide Hull with an attacking presence and they may capitalise on a Millwall side who have returned to action below their best.

Millwall may be vulnerable

Millwall’s playoff aspirations all but ended with a 2-0 defeat at home to relegation-threatened Middlesbrough on Wednesday and their disappointment may see another below-par performance posted at Hull.

The Lions have won only one of their five games since the season resumed – a 1-0 win at struggling Charlton – and they are finding goals hard to come by, particularly on their travels.

As well as failing to score in defeat against Boro, Millwall were held to a goalless draw at second-bottom Barnsley and their inconsistencies make them a difficult punting proposition.

Gary Rowett’s side have won only six of their 21 away games this season and have netted just 20 goals in the process, firing blanks on six occasions.

It is worth noting Millwall’s poor record against the league’s lesser lights. The Lions have won only one of their previous seven away trips to sides who currently sit in the bottom eight of the division.

Lions should get on the scoresheet

Hull are without a league clean sheet in 16 games and although Millwall have been below-par in the final third in recent weeks, we are predicting them to grab a consolation.

It was a 1-1 draw when these two sides locked horns at The Den in August and that was the fifth consecutive meeting between the pair in which both teams had scored.

Our prediction is a 2-1 Hull win. The Tigers were 2-1 winners in last season’s showdown at the KCOM Stadium and two of their last three Championship successes at home to Middlesbrough and Stoke have been recorded by that scoreline.
