Iceland vs Armenia Predictions
- Iceland have failed to win any of their last six Nations League or World Cup qualifying home games (5 losses, 1 draw).
- Armenia have avoided defeat in four of their last six away qualifiers or Nations League games.
Armenia will fancy their chances at former fortress
Iceland are in a bit of a mess at the moment with an inexperienced coach trying to start afresh with a small talent pool while dealing with inflated expectations built up over the previous cycle.
Results have not gone well in qualification so far with the Euro 2016 quarter-finalists picking up just four points from their first six games.
They have slipped to 60th in the Fifa rankings and lost their reputation as a dangerous opponent at their former Laugardalsvöllur fortress, where they have suffered five defeats in their last six games.
Armenia will fancy their chances of compounding the hosts’ misery on Friday night as they arrive mid-way through their best World Cup qualifying bid in years.
Having never finished higher than fourth in a group, Joaquin Caparros’s side are second with four games to go and have some winnable games to come.
This has to be placed in that category given the visitors beat Iceland 2-0 in Yerevan without Henrikh Mkhitaryan earlier this year.
The skipper is available for this trip north and we like Armenia’s chances of avoiding defeat in this game, so we will take the tempting price available in the double chance market.
The Collective Team have won two and drawn two their last six non-friendly away fixtures, only suffering defeats in Germany and to a North Macedonia side they dominated in a bad-tempered game featuring three penalties.
During the same period, Iceland have lost five of six competitive home games, conceding 14 goals, and we believe this could end in a fresh 2-1 setback for the hosts.
