      Ipswich vs Derby Predictions

The Suffolk side have won 3 of their last 4 matches and have suffered just 1 defeat in their last 9 so come into this game in good form and look well capable of repeating last season’s top six finish. They’ve already won twice this week on the road with Brett Pitman scoring the winner at MK Dons and again at Fulham on Tuesday and they have tended to fair better away from Portman Road of late.

They have only won 1 of their last 8 home games which is a bit of a worry but by the same token they have only lost twice in 19 at Portman Road, so it’s not as though Ipswich is an easy place to go and win.

Derby have lost just 1 of their last 16 matches and were convincing 4-0 winners in midweek at home against Bristol City although they were reliant on a late goal to a rescue a point in an entertaining 2-2 draw against unbeaten Brighton last weekend.

This has the makings of a really good contest. Ipswich need to win to guarantee they end the day still in the play-off places while Derby will know that they’ll be almost certain to be in the top two on Christmas Day if they can secure 3 points here given the two sides currently above them play each other.

Therefore there is plenty of incentive to go for the win and these are two passing teams that like to play attacking but not reckless football. Derby have a range of goalscoring options including Tom Ince who netted a hat-trick in midweek and Chris Martin who already has 9 goals to his name. The Rams have the 2nd best goalscoring record in the league but Ipswich have scored just 1 goal fewer than them and tend to share their goals around the team. Therefore backing both teams to score here at 10/11 looks a solid punt.

It’s hard to pick a winner though and although Derby are the favourites, Ipswich are playing well right now and are capable of getting something from the game so consider backing it to finish 1-1 at 5/1.
