Kilmarnock vs Motherwell Predictions
Kilmarnock gave their chances of Scottish Premiership survival a boost last weekend with a surprising 2-0 win away to St Johnstone, pushing them up to 8th in the Premiership table with a four point lead on the relegation playoff position and a six point cushion on the bottom of the table Inverness CT.
This continues a spell of Kilmarnock proving difficult to beat. They have won two, drawn four, and lost two of their last eight matches in all competitions, and in the league they have only lost one of their last six matches.
At home the victories come a lot easier as well. They have won three, drawn two, and lost three of their last eight home matches in the Premiership, and two of those defeats came against Celtic and Aberdeen. The signs are looking promising for Kilmarnock, considering the form of some of their relegation rivals.
Motherwell are one of these relegation rivals, and their form is looking atrocious at the moment. They were battered 5-1 at home to Dundee last weekend, to make it six defeats from their last seven games in all competitions, leaving them 11th in the table and just two points above the bottom spot. They have parted ways with manager Mark McGhee since then, but there are many issues with the players at the moment and I can’t see this solving their defensive crisis.
It’s not so much the defeats that are the main issue though; it’s the nature of them. Defensively they have been truly awful in recent times and have conceded a huge 17 goals in their last four matches in the Scottish Premiership. They have conceded at least two goals in six of their last seven games and scored just six goals at the other end of the pitch.
Away from home they have lost eight of their last 14 games in all competitions and conceded at least two goals in eight of them as well. Kilmarnock may have only averaged just over a goal per game in their last eight home matches, but they will feel confident of putting the Motherwell back line to the sword.
With Motherwell in such terrible shape at the back, I think odds of 11/10 for Kilmarnock Over 1.5 Team Goals is a good value offering, so I’m going for that along with a 3-1 correct score predictions at 16/1.
