Under 2.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

Under 2.5 goals have been scored in four of the last five games to feature Lecce, as well as in three of Torino’s last five. Lecce are one of just five Serie A teams with a worse attacking record than Il Toro this campaign, but the hosts also have the best defence outside the division’s top seven teams.

Torino 1-0

Reason for tip

Torino posted a 1-0 win when the sides last met in September. Lecce have lost back-to-back matches to nil and have the worst expected goals created figure in Serie A this season, recording just 21.2 xG.

Lecce vs Torino Predictions

  • Under 2.5 goals have been scored in four of Lecce’s last five games.
  • Torino, meanwhile, have seen under 2.5 goals scored in three of their last five.
  • Lecce are one of just six Serie A teams with a worse goalscoring record than Torino this term.
  • Torino won September’s return fixture 1-0.

Stadio Via del mare unlikely to host thriller

Sunday’s meeting between Lecce and Torino – the fifth- and sixth-worst attacking outfits in Serie A this season respectively – may not be one for the purists, but there should still be plenty of intrigue. While Lecce sit nine points above the bottom three and thus not entirely out of the woods just yet, Torino’s inconsistent run has seen them slip behind Bologna in their bid to challenge Juventus for seventh. With neither side particularly trustworthy, punters should look to back (a lack of) goals.

Four of Lecce’s last five games have contained under 2.5 goals, with Marco Baroni’s men losing their last two to nil against Sassuolo and Inter Milan. The hosts have only outscored five sides in Serie A this term – all of whom accompany them in the bottom seven places – and their expected goals figures remain the worst in the league with just 21.2 xG created. If Lecce avoid slipping into a basement battle, it will be their solid defence to thank – no team outside the top seven has conceded fewer goals.

Torino, meanwhile, are one point behind both Juventus and Bologna in ninth, though their inconsistent run has given hope to the likes of Udinese, Monza and Fiorentina behind them. Ivan Juric’s men have seen under 2.5 goals scored in three of their last five – the most recent exception behind a 4-2 derby loss to Juve – and have now gone four away games without a win (L3).

Under 2.5 goals the play

With Lecce often uninspiring going forward and Torino winning three of their last nine games in an inconsistent run, punters may be best advised to ignore the results markets and back a cagey affair – under 2.5 match goals is our main tip.

Meanwhile, a hard-fought 1-0 win for the visitors – who triumphed by the same scoreline in September’s return fixture – could represent a decent correct score play.
