Leeds vs Brentford Predictions
- Leeds lost only five of 19 Premier League home games last season
- Brentford have scored nine goals across their opening two matches in league and cup
- Each of the last three meetings have ended in draws
Two sides full of confidence
There will be plenty of confidence in the air when Leeds and Brentford go head-to-head at Elland Road on Sunday, with both sides having started the season with two wins from two.
Leeds opened with a 1-0 Premier League success at Nottingham Forest before returning to the City Ground to beat the same opposition 2-0 in the EFL Cup.
Brentford, meanwhile, began with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Tottenham in the league before putting six past Birmingham in the cup, with those victories coming off the back of beating Rennes 4-2 and Eintracht Frankfurt 7-0 in what was an eye-catching pre-season for the Bees.
Goals expected at Elland Road
With nine goals scored in their first two competitive games of the season, Brentford will head to West Yorkshire full of confidence that they can do something that Forest were not able to do across 180 minutes of football, breach Leeds’ defence.
Keith Andrews’ side have only failed to score once in seven competitive games, and that sole blank came away at Manchester City at the back end of last season.
Elland Road is not an easy place for visiting teams to go, however, with Leeds losing only five of their 19 Premier League games on home soil last season, while it ended all-square when they last hosted Brentford in March.
Both meetings between this pair finished level last season, with each of the last three head-to-heads and five of the last seven also ending in draws.
The last three clashes between the evenly-matched duo at Elland Road have also ended all-square, including a 2-2 in their first Premier League meeting in December 2021, and a repeat of that outcome appeals in the correct score market.
Calvert-Lewin to get off the mark
Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored a late equaliser for Leeds in December’s 1-1 draw at Brentford and the England international can get off the mark for the new season against the Bees.
Calvert-Lewin was Leeds’ top scorer last season with 14 Premier League goals and he was busy during their top-flight opener this time around, firing off three shots against Forest.
The 29-year-old was only introduced as a late substitute in the cup win at the City Ground, with manager Daniel Farke seemingly having one eye on this game.
A refreshed Calvert-Lewin is certainly capable of getting on the scoresheet in his side’s first home match of the season.
