Leeds vs Rotherham Predictions
Heading into 2017 it certainly looks as though this will be the last Yorkshire derby played between these clubs for some time. The Millers surely will be in League One next term, while Leeds remain on course for a shot at the play-offs and possible promotion to the Premier League. With home advantage, Leeds certainly should have too much for their opponents here.
They ended 2016 with a good performance and 1-1 draw at Villa Park and given they’d won 8 of their previous 10 Championship matches, confidence will still be sky high coming into this game. They’ve won 7 of their last 9 at Elland Road in the league with their rock solid defence the major factor in their success. They’ve conceded just 0.75 goals per game at home this term and 4 of their last 5 home matches have resulted in wins to nil, so they’ll be confident of replicating that against the league’s bottom club.
They’ll be able to call upon the services of top scorer Chris Wood again here. He’s been carrying a knock over the festive period so has had to make do with substitute appearances but should be fit enough to start this and he’ll be a handful for the division’s worst defence. Backing Wood to score anytime, therefore, looks like a smart strategy and the Kiwi has netted in 4 of Leeds’ last 6 home games.
Rotherham’s cause is looking a hopeless one again, despite a few more encouraging recent performances. A home defeat to fellow strugglers Burton to end 2016 would have been a body blow to them and it’s hard to see them picking themselves up in time to come to Elland Road and get a result. They’ve lost a massive 92% of their away games this season in the league, picking up just a solitary point on the road.
Defensively Rotherham have let in 2.75 goals per game away from home, which suggests Leeds will net at least twice here but the hosts have a strong enough defence to keep the Millers quiet at the other end and given, that backing Leeds to win to nil at 13/10 looks to offer value.
