Tip Reasoning

Under prestigious new manager Marco Bielsa, Leeds have been the stars of the Football League so far, and currently look unstoppable.

Bielsa seems to have successfully translated his high-intensity approach to football, with pressing, fast passing and attacking forming the fundamental pillars of how his sides like to play. They played pre-season promotion favourites Stoke City off the park in their first match, beating them 3-1, whilst humbled Frank Lampard’s Derby side 4-1 at their home ground. In midweek, they deservedly progressed through to the next round of the Carabao Cup with a 2-1 win over a spirited Bolton Wanderers side.

The manager appears to have raised the standards of everyone at the club. In particular, the attacking force looks a lot more potent than it did last season, with players like Samu Saiz and Kemar Roofe managing to up their already impressive performances from last season.

After three matches, Leeds seem to be the team to beat at the moment and if they can maintain their high-intensity football for an entire season, then the Championship title could be theirs.

Rotherham United, on the other hand, have had a mixed start to their season after being promoted from League One last year.

They suffered a horrendous defeat on the opening day against Brentford, losing 5-1 and outclassed in every single way. This would have caused a lot of panic amongst the club and its fans about the team’s ability to compete in this division. However, they improved massively against Ipswich and their direct style of play got them a last-minute winner through striker Michael Smith and their first three points of the season.

They followed that up with a comprehensive 3-1 victory at home against fellow Championship side Wigan Athletic. Striker Jamie Proctor returned from long-term injury and scored twice to give hope that he can provide a number of goals to keep the side in the division.

If Rotherham can maintain their effectiveness through set-pieces and crosses, then they have a real chance of staying in the Championship in what should be a season of a battle against the drop.

Indeed, we do not think Rotherham will be able to get much out of this game. Leeds have breezed past harder teams and whilst we think Rotherham could nick a goal back, it could very much be an easy victory for the home side.

Thus, a “Leeds to Win and over 2.5 goals” could be a smart bet to make, as it covers what could be a thrashing by Leeds but goals for Rotherham, seeing as they are in-form and so are their strikers. In addition, it is a Yorkshire derby, so both sides will be fired up to perform and get a result here. However, a 3-1 correct score-line seems appropriate, as Leeds have conceded in every game this season.
