Leganes vs Real Betis Predictions
- All but one of Leganes’ last six home games in La Liga have generated over 2.5 goals.
- Five of the last six La Liga meetings between these sides over the past three seasons have produced three goals or more.
- Real Betis have drawn four of their last six La Liga matches on the road.
Betis push Barca close at Benito Villamarin
Real Betis enhanced their reputation for being one of the best teams to watch in La Liga when they faced Barcelona at Benito Villamarin last weekend, and just came out on the wrong side of a five goal thriller.
Evidently fuelled by the return visit of former boss Quique Setien, Betis flew out of the traps and deservedly held a 2-1 lead after 26 minutes, following a penalty from Sergio Canales and a venomous strike from Nabil Fekir.
However, the champions found a way back through Sergio Busquets on the stroke of half time and slowly took command in the second period, securing a 2-3 victory 18 minutes from time when Clement Lenglet powered a header past the impressive Joel Robles.
Unfortunately for Betis, you ultimately earn little for entertainment value and it’s now just one win in seven for Rubi’s side, who have dropped down to 13th in the La Liga table.
They will expect to achieve a better result with a similar performance away to Leganes this weekend, although Butarque hasn’t been a happy hunting ground for Los Verdiblancos in recent years. Betis have lost on their last four trips to this venue, including a crushing 3-0 defeat last term.
Lega’s escape plan held up in Valencia
After a battling 0-0 draw at Atletico Madrid and a fine 2-1 victory at home to Real Sociedad, Leganes looked set up to post their first away win of the campaign against out of sorts Levante last weekend, but it was Granotas who prevailed fairly comfortably to end a four match losing streak.
Lega never got going at Ciutat de Valencia and were batted out of contention early doors after goals from Rochina and Roger Marti in the opening half an hour; the 2-0 final score halting some decent progress made by Javier Aguirre’s men since the turn of the year.
Leganes remain in the bottom three heading into Matchday 24, but they are only two points behind 17th placed Celta Vigo. If Los Pepineros are to escape this term, they will need to rely on their results at Butarque, where they have largely impressed in recent outings.
A 0-3 defeat to third placed Getafe is the only blot on their home copybook since the beginning of December, and Aguirre’s charges go into this Sunday’s contest having won three of their last four in front of their own supporters.
Over 2.5 goals appeals at odds-against
There are reasons to believe that both of these teams can achieve a positive result at Butarque on Matchday 24, but equally, there are enough doubts to oppose backing either side for the three points in the match betting.
We’re instead focusing on over 2.5 goals, which the bookmakers have surprisingly chalked up at well above evens.
All but one of Leganes’ last six home matches have produced three goals or more, while Betis have generally been involved in high scoring games this term, with 15 of their 23 league fixtures generating over 2.5 goals. Furthermore, five of the last six meetings between the teams have also seen three or more goals scored.
Betis have suffered a string of defeats at Butarque in recent seasons, but they should have enough quality to stop that rot here. Los Verdiblancos have drawn four of their last six outings on the road, so we’re predicting a 2-2 correct score this Sunday; a result which both teams would likely deem to be satisfactory.
